Product overview
Olvid is a secure messenger developed in Paris by two cryptography researchers. It gained public attention in November 2023 when French Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne ordered all government ministers and their staff to replace WhatsApp and Signal with Olvid. The app holds CSPN certification from ANSSI (France's national cybersecurity agency), making it the only messenger with this distinction. Olvid's security model differs from other encrypted apps: it requires no phone number or email to register, stores no central user directory, and its protocol ensures that even the server operator cannot identify who communicates with whom. Client-side code is open source and available on GitHub. For business use, Olvid offers a management console with SSO (via Keycloak), LDAP and Active Directory integration, MDM deployment, and bot capabilities. The Business plan costs 9.90 euros per user per month (minimum 10 users, billed annually). A free personal plan includes full encryption, unlimited messaging, and group chats but lacks enterprise management features. Olvid functions as a direct messenger (one-on-one and group conversations, voice and video calls) rather than a channel-based workspace. It does not include channels, threads, or the workspace structure found in tools like Slack. The company has fewer than 10 employees and approximately 100,000 registered users as of late 2023. Infrastructure runs on AWS. KEY FEATURES: - CSPN certification from ANSSI, the only messenger holding this French security credential - No phone number, email, or personal data required for registration - Zero-metadata protocol preventing the server from identifying communication patterns - Business management console with SSO, LDAP, and MDM support - Post-quantum cryptography for future-proof encryption
