Citadel Team is a secure messaging application developed by Ercom, a subsidiary of French defense group Thales. It provides end-to-end encrypted text messaging, voice calls, and video conferencing for organizations handling sensitive communications. The product follows a freemium model: the free tier includes encrypted messaging and voice calls for anyone, while paid plans add video conferencing, group calls, screen sharing, and an enterprise administration console. Citadel Team runs on dedicated infrastructure operated by Thales, hosted in French data centers including OVHcloud facilities. A SecNumCloud 3.2 option is available for government clients needing the highest French security classification. More than a third of CAC 40 companies use the product, along with CNES (the French space agency) and other public-sector bodies. The app is open to any business or individual through iOS, Android, Windows, and Mac, with real-time sync across devices. Thales holds the France Cybersecurity 2021 label for Citadel Team, and ANSSI certification is in progress. Enterprise pricing requires contacting Thales directly. Each customer receives a dedicated infrastructure instance, ensuring full data isolation between organizations. Registration uses a professional email address, and administrators get a console for managing users and device access remotely.
