Lightdash
Open-source BI platform built on dbt for metrics-driven dashboards and data exploration.
π United Kingdom π¬π§, London
Product overview
Lightdash is an open-source BI platform built on dbt, headquartered in London. It is designed for data teams that already use dbt for data transformation and want a BI layer that reads directly from their dbt project's semantic definitions. Analysts and engineers define metrics and dimensions in YAML files alongside their dbt models, and Lightdash uses these definitions to generate interactive dashboards, charts, and explorations without duplicating logic. The platform includes a drag-and-drop dashboard builder, SQL runner, scheduled reports (via Slack and email), drill-down exploration, and role-based access controls. Lightdash also offers an AI-powered analyst that responds to natural-language questions. For deployment, teams can self-host the open-source version for free or use Lightdash Cloud, which offers managed hosting with a choice of European or North American infrastructure. Founded in 2021, Lightdash started as a Y Combinator company (batch S20, originally called Hubble). It has raised approximately $19.5 million, including an $11 million Series A in October 2024 led by Accel, with participation from Shopify Ventures. The open-source version is used by over 5,000 teams. Cloud pricing starts at $2,400 per month for unlimited users. KEY FEATURES: - dbt-native semantic layer for metrics-as-code - Interactive dashboards with drill-down and SQL runner - AI-powered natural-language data analyst - Self-hosted (free, open source) or managed cloud with EU deployment option - Scheduled reports via Slack and email with role-based permissions
