Product overview
Varnish Software AB develops the commercial version of Varnish Cache, the open-source HTTP accelerator that powers content delivery for some of the world's largest websites and streaming platforms. The company spun off from Norwegian consultancy Redpill Linpro in 2010 to commercialize the caching technology originally created in 2005 for Norwegian newspaper Verdens Gang. Majority-owned by Swedish private equity firm Neqst, Varnish Software employs roughly 98 people. While historically a pure software vendor, Varnish Software has expanded into managed CDN services. In 2025, the company launched Varnish CDN, a fully European-hosted CDN SaaS product emphasizing data sovereignty, zero US CLOUD Act exposure, and NIS2 compliance. Separately, Ora Streaming, launched in April 2025 in partnership with Intel, delivers a managed private CDN-as-a-service on dedicated bare-metal servers within Tier-1 ISP networks, targeting streaming providers handling 20+ petabytes monthly. Each Ora server can deliver up to 1.5 Tbps using Intel Xeon 6 processors. The core Varnish Enterprise product benchmarks at 1 Tbps+ per server. Clients include Hulu, Tesla, Emirates, Sky, CBC, Migros, and Telia Company. Revenue is estimated at approximately $35 million annually.
