Tilde develops multilingual language technology and AI models from Riga, Latvia. Founded in 1991 as a language software company, it has expanded into machine translation and large language models. The company employs over 150 people across offices in Riga, Vilnius, and Tallinn. TildeOpen-30B is a 30-billion-parameter dense decoder-only transformer trained on 2 trillion tokens covering 34 European languages, including all 24 EU official languages plus Ukrainian, Norwegian, Icelandic, Turkish, and several Balkan languages. A 12-person research team trained the model using 768 AMD MI250X GPUs on LUMI, Europe's fastest supercomputer, after Tilde won the European Commission's Large AI Grand Challenge in 2024 and received 2 million GPU hours.
