Tilde develops multilingual language technology and AI models from Riga, Latvia. Founded in 1991 as a language software company, it has expanded into machine translation and large language models. TildeOpen-30B is a 30-billion-parameter dense decoder-only transformer trained on 2 trillion tokens covering 34 European languages, including all 24 EU official languages plus Ukrainian, Norwegian, Icelandic, Turkish, and several Balkan languages. A 12-person research team trained the model using 768 AMD MI250X GPUs on LUMI, Europe's fastest supercomputer, after Tilde won the European Commission's Large AI Grand Challenge in 2024 and received 2 million GPU hours. The model scored 84.7% average accuracy on the Belebele reading comprehension benchmark and is 30 to 41% more efficient than LLaMA-3 for European languages. It is released under CC-BY-4.0, a fully permissive license allowing commercial use. TildeOpen-30B is available on Hugging Face (TildeAI/TildeOpen-30b) and is integrated into Tilde's machine translation platform. The company provides commercial translation, localization, and speech technology services. Partners include IBM and Microsoft (Bing Translator). The model has also been deployed on the JUPITER supercomputer in Germany.
